NA/K, slight imbalance?

NA/K, slight imbalance?

I had a routine complete blood workup a few months ago. All came back normal except for slightly elevated K- (5.1mmol/L), and my sodium was at the low end at 135. Everything else seemed to be relatively normal (BUN 17, creatine .9, chloride 102, protein 7.4, glucose 97, nonfasting). I was wondering if this is cause for alarm? I don't really have any symptoms, maybe slight heart palps from time to time. I do take a lot of ibuprofen (1200-1600 mg/day) during the 3-4 days of my period and this preceeded the blood test. I also take 3.75mg of Tranxene 5-8x per month for slight anxiety, PMS. I guess of note: I sometimes practice a low carb/high protein diet. I'm 37, female, and otherwise in good health. Blood pressure low normal, weight normal, etc. Dr. did not recommend anything or even bring these results to my attention. I was just able to see them b/c they are downloadable. Should I just keep an eye on the levels? If so, how often. This test was taken nearly a year ago. I've just done some research after seeing these results and, as my husband is a biochemist, I know that NA/K balance controls heart rhythm, etc. So I am worried about that and about possible kidney/adrenal issues. Thanks in advance for your reply.

If I saw those labs in clinic, I wouldn't think twice and would not order any further test.  I would have my nurse call the patient and tell them their labs were normal.  In our labs, those are both normal values.

I hope this helps.
