HEART RHYTHM COMMUNITY
NOT AGAIN

NOT AGAIN

I am not having a very good day today. My heart was skipping all day at work. I came home from work and my daughter asked me to go on a short 2 mile run with them. Well my family Dr keeps telling me remember the heart is a muscle it needs to have excercise. So I went and a quarter of the way into it my hear was skipping all over the place so I coughed that didnt work, rubbed my center chest really hard, that didnt work beared down and that helped for a few seconds then off it went so I walked by myself the first mile then ran the second mile without really to much of a problem. I am just depressed and discouraged. I normally excercise 5 days a week without to many episodes but today was by far one of the most terrifying. Does this happen to anyoneelse out there with so called psvt? If so how do you get through it? I am afraid to go back to the DR. they already think Iam obssesed with my hear and actually get mad at me. I take lopressor twice a day, I do have to say it has helped with the really fast heart rate but the palpitations or what ever they are, nothing helps them really go away.

Good that you can still run, and with your daughter, wish I could keep up with mine, she's only 22 years younger than me : >)

I don't have any answers or suggestions beyond being sure your doctor understands your level of physical exercise and agrees that what you do is sufficient management of the symptoms.

I understand the heart if fine with a few extra beats, and if the HR is held under some maximum, you should be ok, just be sure you don't go way over your recommended maximum HR...use a heart monitor.  I have both a Polar (2 of them, one is 6+ years old) and one other brand, forget the name at the moment.  They work very well and keep me informed of my HR when I'm doing physical work, I wear even when doing heavy yeard work.
