Need for Concern

I am a 60 year old male runner and cyclist.  I have an elevated blood pressure which is being treated with a combination of Cozaar and AdalatXL.  Several years ago I was diagnosed with arrhythmia (extra beats) which is being monitored on a regular basis by a Cardiologist.

Recently, I have noticed that after a couple of hours following a run I sometimes get extra beats followed by a spike in my heart rate (e.g. from 60 to 180 back down to 60). These episodes sometimes last for several hours.  I do not have any other symptoms.

Is there a need for concern?

It could be SVT which is what I had.    Mine was always worse post-exercise, but minutes after, not a couple of hours.  Atrial fibrillation may also produce similar symptoms. Have you ever noticed that you get light headed or feel faint?  Since this sounds like a change in your arrhythmia pattern, you really should speak to your cardiologist.
