New echocardiogram results

Wonder if anyone has any experience with this, and if so what was the outcome. Three years ago had several recurrent episodes of wide complex tachycardia and was diagnosed with viral dilated cardiomyopathy. The echocardiogram done at that time had an EF of between 33 and 35%, left ventricular enlargement, and mild mitral valve regurgitation. The treatment was a biventricular pacing defibrillator, amiodarone, metoprolol, and lisinopril. Have just had a follow up echo which showed an EF of 50 to 55%, upper end of normal size left ventricle, mild right atrial and left atrial enlargement, grossly normal right ventricle, and moderate mitral valve bileaflet regurgitation. Cardiologist did not seem too concerned with the results but, I am concerned with the bi-atrial enlargement and move from mild to moderate mitral valve enlargement.

first,  the fact that ef is up is very good, and that left ventricle is normal is also very good.   i am reading that your amount of mitral valve regurgitation is up from mild to moderate...   that means the amount of leakage of that valve, not that valve itself is enlarged   almost everyone has some amount of leakage in the mitral valve, and moderate increase of leakage is not a bad thing if your ef has improved...  i know that can be worrisome when seen on report, as i wondered the same thing when looking at my daughter's reports when the amount reported had increased.   she has dilated cardiomyopathy with moderate mitral regurgitation, dilated left ventricle, but her ef has increased from 32% at diagnosis to 45% now   in looking at what you have written it seems that overall you are improving, and that is great...     i hope everything keeps improving for you              dawn
