Night time irregular heartbeat

My husband has had high blood pressure for many years and is on Benicar for that. Lately he is waking up in the middle of the night with rapid heart rate; he then gets up, takes his Benicar, and his heart rate lowers and he can sleep. So every night he has been having this happen. He does not smoke, drinks only occassionally and has not been drinking at all to see if this would assist in stopping this problem. Help!!
