Now on a new drug, Verapamil

Hello, last month I saw my cardiologist and he had determined that I have AVNRT. So we finally switched from Atenolol 50mg after 10 years of use, to Propafenone 150mg x2 a day. The Propafenone didn't do much for me, felt every heart beat, every skip and elevated heart rate when doing something as minor as walking from room to room. When on Atenolol it would hide the strong heart beats. Now today I started on Verapamil 240mg SR once a day. I'm just curious as to what some people have to say about it? I know being the first day I can't expect a miracle and that I won't feel my beating heart and no more skipped beats or what have you. How long until you usually see some change/improvement?

thanks

Hi, I am on Verapimil and I noticed a difference within 2 days of using it.  I was really tired and dizzy the first 4 days, but I am getting used to it.

Well We are at the one week mark and not much has changed since I had tried Propafenone. Still have breakthroughs and last night while sleeping on my left side by mistake ( I can't sleep on the left I starts SVT ) had a short attacks less then 2 minutes.
Can't wait for ablation, I was really hoping these new meds would be better then the Atenolol I was on. so far not much difference.

Thanks Irene,

I know I have to give the medication a while until the system gets use to them. Just curious how longs until it usually reaches it's full potential.

I couldn't use Verapamil but am doing fine on Diltiazem, also a CCB. It takes 2 - 4 weeks for it to all settle down, initial side effects of starting the medication as well as whatever benefit you'll get. I still feel my ectopics and my tachy bursts but overall I feel pretty good. They don't seem to happen as often and my chest pains are virtually gone.
