Nuclear Stress Test results totally in-accurate

Just wanted to pass along the in-accuracy of my recent Nuclear Stress Test and how it ended up being a big help totally by mistake.

The test indicated a reversible defect to the apex in the inferior wall but noted GI interference with the picture. No other defects were found.

The actual result (after my Angiogram ) was that the above defect was incorrect. No defect in that area was found. But….

The angiogram did un-cover a serious defect (45% blockage in Left Main artery with 88% pressure) that the Nuc. Stress Test did not detect.

So…Nuc. Stress Test score “zero for two.”  Not good.

So if I'm hearing you correctly, the stress test showed there was an issue with blood flow that showed up during stress but revereted to normal at rest. This indicated the need for further investigation. Upon further investigation with angiophy they were able to pinpoint the problem. It's a function of cost and invasiveness.  They all start with basic heart rate and blood pressure, then EKG, then halter monitor, then Echocardiogram, then Nuc stress test, then angiogram, with each being more costly and more invasive, and also more accurate.  I understand your frustration, been through it too, but this is how they do it.  DISCLAIMER:  I am NOT a doctor.  You should only accept medical advise from a licensed professional.

Actually I think you mis-understood me, not sure though.

The problem identified on the stress test was an error. It was NOT found on the angiogram. So mistake #1.

Mistake #2 was that the angiogram found a significant obstruction in the left main that did NOT appear on the stress test.
