One sided heart beat

This has happened to me twice now. My heart all of a sudden beats very hard and rapid on the left side. It makes me feel like I can't get enough air in my lungs when this happens. The first time I was sitting in a recliner watching TV. The second time it woke me up in the middle of the night. It lasts about 4-5 minutes. It's very frightening. I believe it was at least 3 mths inbetween occurrences. I had a stress test done in 2005 but everything was normal. I would like to know what causes this and what I should do if it happens again. I was dressed and getting ready to drive the the ER when it stopped last time. Any ideas?

Next time you see your internist (or sooner, if it happens again), mention the episodes to get his/her opinion.  You may be feeling PVCs and/or PACs, but it's hard to say without a tracing.  Best to check with your doctor.  Once you've had a checkup, you may have a better idea of what's going on.  Take care and let us know how you're doing.
