PVC's and Diuretics

I have had pvc's for the past 17 or so years. Like most women on the forum I tend to get higher number of pvc's about two weeks before my period. During those two weeks I get anxious and usually end up taking Xanax to relax. I also take 50mg of Zoloft on a daily basis. I had an appointment with my primary doctor yesterday. We talked about discontinuing the Zoloft because I only get anxious occassionaly during those two pvc laden weeks before my period and the Xanax takes care of that. My doctor would like me to stop the Xanax also. She thinks my pvc's might be brought on by water weight gain before my period. So for the next 3 months I am going to keep a diary of my weight gain and /or loss before and after my period. If I have significant (1 to 3lbs.) of water weight before my period my doctor wants me to try taking a diuretic (water pill) because she thinks that could be the cause of my increased pvc's. Has anyone ever heard this theory? I'd appreciate any comments.

I too suffer from PVC's.  I was taking a diuretic for years for my high blood pressure.  However, when I started suffering from more frequent PVC's, my PCP sent me to a cardiologist who took me off of the water pill.  He said the water pill can cause you to lose too much potassium which can cause PVC's.  However, after stopping the pills it still didn't help in controlling the PVC's.  In fact I'm experiencing them now and have for about the past three hours.

My Primary Physician said that like you, added water may be causing the PVC's and said that the Hydrocolorot should reduce that. I never complained of bloatedness or weight gain so  i was a little unsure of what benefits this medication would give me. My Cardiologist took me straight off of them and replaced them with Lisinopril which is a blood pressure med as I was complaining of dizziness and said it would compliment my usual blood pressure med Toprol. I still have the dizziness and PVC's though so the change didn't make any difference!!

I'm curious, did your cardiologist give you a reason for taking you off the diuretic?

I was told the same thing and was put on the Hydrocolorot diuretic by my Primary Care Phsician but I still had the PVC's. When I visited my Cardiologist, he took me straight off of them!! I too like you had Xanax prescribled to me as they were the only thing that helped. My doctor made me stop them as they were only for short term use and guess what? the PVC's returned. Got used to them now but can still be bothersome, especially the dizzines/light heads. I've just started taking a Hawthorn supplement which is supposed to help with PVC's so I'll keep you and everyone posted on what I think about it!!
