PVC's and tambocor

Ok im a 32 year old male 5'7 200 pounds. I know im overwieght and have been for many years.
I have experienced PVC's for many years now but they were never Caught on an ekg or holter moniter until about 3 months ago. I experienced a spell of a fib that lasted about 12 hours. I made an appointment to see a cardiologist again. And by again i mean that i have seen a few cardiologists starting back when i was about 22 for the pounding feeling I felt in my chest and some off and on a fib. The cardiologist that i first went to (when I was 22 ) told me that I was to young to have heart problems and that maybe I needed to see a psychiatrist. so I went on from there and continued feeling these annoying beats here and there.

well back to my last episode. For some reason after my last a fib attack i started getting these PVC's more often so often that i went to the hospitol to have this checked out. The ER doctor there said i was having PVC's and that it was nothing to worry about that everyone has them, some people can feel them and some cant.

Ok so the cardiologist has me wear a holter monitor and does an echo on me. They told me that my heart structure looks good and everything is normal. The holter moniter showed that i was having PVC's but he didnt think it was to bad. He pescribed tambocor for me but I wasnt to sure why. From what i have read on the internet antiarrythmic drugs can cause more harm then good.

So i didnt take them and i started eaten better and trying to lose weight. I have felt alot better lately having sometimes one or two PVC's a day. Today maybe about 10 or so.

well i went to the cardiologist yesterday and a nurse practitioner came in to see me.
I told her that i didnt take the tambocor and how I felt about it.
I also explained to her how i have been trying to eat better and trying to lose weight.
I also explained to her that i was going through alot of  stress lately and that maybe that was the cause.
She agreed that stress can bring on PVC's
But still she isisted that i take the tambocor.
Tomorrow im going to see my family doctor and tell her that i want a second opinion.

Do you think i should ask for a second opinion? or just start taking the tambocor and risk its side effects

Hello...

Sounds like you have had a tough time with all of this. I want to mention, that unless you were given an event monitor along with the Tambocor, I would not take it untill you speak to your Dr. Antiarrhythmic medication are not to be taken like any other meds. When people therapy with these is being initiated, standard practice is that a recording needs to be sent in from an event monitor 2 hours after each dose.

These drugs can sometimes prolong the QT interval as well as kick up other rhythm disturbances. If this is treatment for PVC's this medication is a last resort treatment. Usually not given until all other medications have failed to treat you symptoms.

That being said, I certainly can't tell you what to do or what is best for you. I can only advice you to speak to your cardiologist, not his nurse, or speak to your primary care Dr. It really concerns me that this drug wass tossed to you like it were an antacid.

If you need further info, just drop me a line:)
