Pacemaker and AV node ablation

Pacemaker and AV node ablation

I am considering a permanent pacemaker and AV nod ablation as a cure for A.Fib.  I am being cardioverted about once a month.  Will I need to take anticoagulant drugs after the proceedure and for life?

Yes, you will need to take coumadin or warfarin for life since you have AFib.  I  had the AV node ablation in March.  The ablation will not eliminate the AFib but it is much more manageable.  Once I had the procedure, I was taken off all if the arrhythmia meds but still on coumadin.  I had the pacer implanted two years ago so I did not have to have that done at the time.  this procedure was great for me but I did have a difficult time coming to grips with the decision as I would no longer run on my own steam but would be paced at 100%.  Now, I am happy I did it.  Good luck with your decision.
