Palpitations again

r9c
Helo everyone, this morning i went to the A&E dept (ER) because i was feeling dizziness, palpitation and a bit shortness of breathe and i am an anxiety sufferer. When i reached A&E i could feel my pulse beating very fast,so once i present myself  at the nurse triage counter where they took all the vital signs,sp02 (oxygen level) 99%,BP i think around 120/80 and pulse rate 105 which is quite high,so they ordered an ECG where everything came back normal despite i could see my heart jumping and beating quite fast during the ECG test were done,so i sat down with the doctor and i asked him is this palpitation caused by some PVC or PAC and when he looked at the ECG paper he said everything is normal.so my question is could one have palpitation,a normal sinus rhythm with no pvc / pac so it means the palpitation is just a normal fast beat and how does PVC/PAC show up on the ecg graph paper? does it shows like Normal sinus rhythm with PVC/PAC on the ecg paper ?

Sorry to not answer all of your questions.

Sinus tachycardia looks like an accelerated normal sinus rhythm on ECG. If it's very fast, the P waves can disappear (hidden in T-waves). It's also common that the QRS spikes are a bit taller, especially if your adrenaline levels are high.If the rate is very high, several nonspecific changes may occur that ECG machines interpret as life threathening things, though they are not :) Doctors tend to have fun showing this to their patients, and laughing their *** off :) (at lease I've experienced this)

A PAC is usually similar to a normal sinus rhythm complex, with a strange P wave due to abnormal atrial activation. If the PAC is very close to the preceding beat, it can produce a wide QRS complex and look like a PVC.

A PVC looks very weird, no P wave, a wide QRS complex sometimes with opposite polarity (peaks down). It's usually followed by a T wave opposite of the QRS complex.

Yes, I do suffer with or should I say try to endure my palpitations.  I have had them for 17 years with periods of intensity and other times, acceptable.  In the beginning I was freaked and always on edge.  Over the years I have calmed down a bit and am able to accept the light events, but I still get thrown into panic when they get more intense or when I feel unusual ones.  During the intense ones, if I call my cardiologist, I always get reminded that they are still the same ones I have had for so many years and did not kill me.
Anxiety can definitely manifest itself through dizziness, short breath, tingling, muscle jerking, etc.
If anything, palpitations can be a good lesson in learning how to accept that life can give you somethings that is beyond our control.  (this of course does not mean not taking care of yourself.  That is something that should be controlled)  Be well and remain calm.

Hi, sorry you have been feeling bad.  A palpitation is an awareness of your own heart.  As Tati said, it can be an actual arrythmia (PAC or PVC) or tachycardia. Your vitals did sound really good.  When I started noticing my heart (many years ago), my rate was 130 for several days.  A holter has recorded me at night at 160 at several different times throughout the monitoring as I was sleeping. I was not hospitalized, just medicated. My daughter recently had the flu and her resting HR at the doctor was 126.  She suffers from tachy and PAC's like I do, and has since she was about 14.  Now let me say that when my HR gets close to 100 BPM I start feeling terrible...like I'm running and I get short of breath.  A PAC or PVC will show up on an EKG if it is happening during the monitoring.  They have caught mine and my daughter's on an EKG.  Anxiety can cause the heart to speed up and it can aggrivate PAC's or PVC's.  I hope you start feeling better soon.

Hello,

You can read very much out of those results. In fact, they are excellent.

If you still had an elevated heart rate during the EKG (that was showing sinus tachycardia) you know this was the case earlier too. An ectopic tachycardia ends from one beat to the next.

Your blood pressure was excellent, even though your heart rate was high and you were anxious. This is very good. Your SaO2 is excellent, and you were probably hyperventilating (as you are in the upper normal level. Mine is 98%, increasing to 99-100% during exercise).

How hard your heart beats doesn't show on EKG - you'll need an echocardiography to determine that. Anyway, one of my EKGs (before echo test) show a sinus tach, rate 105, I really felt my heart skip, jump, run, etc, and I was sure this EKG would send me straight to ablation or something. Cardiologist said: completely regular and normal.

Many things in your body can mimic heart beats, keep that in mind.

Hi thanks for the replies, yes i have seen a cardiologist twice, did stress test, echo and 24 hr holter which all came back normal.Yeap thats wat i asked the ER doctor this morning, does my ecg shows some incidents premature contractions etc,but he said no,even it does show he said its not significant because he himself do have pvc too, everyone has it too so its normal. The only thing now is other symptoms like dizziness, and chest discomfort followed by this annoying palpitations,i know it could be due to my anxieties but at times i just keep thinking it might be something else causing those symptoms, like PVC/PAC.
btw do u suffered from palpitations too?

Hello and hope you're feeling better by now.  Palpitations can mean pvc's, pac's and/or tachycardia (fast rate).  You can have them individually or together - tachycardia with throws of pvc's.  All palpitations (abnormal rhythm) would show on the ecg.  You can have normal sinus rhythm with incidents of premature contractions.
105 is not very high rate, esp. since you were nervous being in the ER.  I've been told by a physician to not bother calling anybody if my rate is under 125.  Anxiety can quickly spike your heart rate.
Take it easy and don't  let this rattle you.  If you want further reassurance, see a cardiologist for more in-depth testing.  Once the health of your heart is confirmed, you can relax when these funky things come upon you.
