Please help is this normal

I am 28 yr old female pretty healthy. I just started to wear a heart rate monitor in order to get my resting heart rate before excersing.  I have noticed that while sitting my heart rate is in the 50-60 range and while layig down quitely it can drop into the mid 40's.  Kind of freaked me out  because all the data states heart rate should not fall into the 40's.
I have also noticed in the moring while going upstairs my hr will be 115 -125 however in the evening while going up the same set of stairs it stays in the 90's to low hundreds.  I am kind of concerned b/c heart disease runs on my grandfathers side of the family. Do I have anything to worry about????  Thank for your input

A heart rate in the 40's when laying down resting or sleeping is not abnormal.  A rate in the 40's as a normal resting, but alert and/or moving state can SOMETIMES be a concern.  Having a rate in the 50-60's as a normal resting rate is fairly good.  Yes, 50 is a bit low, but not abnormally or alertingly so.  Now, the difference in rate while climbing stairs is a bit more interesting.  While not alarming, a jump of 50-60 bpm in a single flight of stairs is still a big jump, but it is not such a surprise if you are not regularly active.

Here are some questions to ask yourself...are you feeling any different from normal?  Fatigued, dizzy, out of breath?  If not, then you likely have nothing to worry about, and what you are noticing is normal (for you).  If you are still concerned, however, it never hurts to visit your general practitioner and discuss your concerns.  Before starting an exercise regimine it is wise to consult with your GP for a base rate anyway.  Though none of us ever do, if you are uncomfortable with what you are observing in your heart rate, perhaps it would be a wise choice in your case to double check.  A little piece of mind goes a LONG way.

Take care.
