Pounding heartbeat

Pounding heartbeat

I'm on a medication that I'm told increases heart rate. Today I drank a large cup of iced coffee. Very shortly after, it felt as if my heart was pounding. My chest felt like someone was squeezing it. That was....about 6 hours ago. It's still beating hard. My mother timed my pulse and it was 72 beats in a minute. She told me that that is normal, however my heart felt (and still feels) like it's racing. My first thought is heart attack. Is that possible, or would I have known by now, being 6 hours later?

I'd rather not call a doctor, as my parents keep telling me it's nothing and that I just need to get to sleep and things will be fine in the morning. So 911 isn't an option. I'm not really in severe pain, just occasionally it'll hurt. It's pretty much just pounding and very uncomfortable.

I took an aspirin around 8. Nothing has really changed.

60-90 beats per minute is what my primary doc says is a normal resting heart rate.  If you are taking meds that increase your heart rate, I think you should avoid caffeine.  At any rate, it sounds like something that should be checked by the doctor.  Hope this is some help.  Hang in there.

Well that's comforting to hear, thanks. I don't plan on having anything highly caffeinated again.
I just spoke with my mother again, and I'm going to call the doctor tomorrow to see if I'll need to get checked out if my chest is still bothering me.
