Pregnancy and Arrhythmia?

by MadyJaye, Apr 01, 2009 03:53PM
Hello, I am a 24 year old female, pregnant with my second child. I have had very mild PVCs since I was around 18 years of age, and they became significantly worse during my pregnancy with my first child. This pregnancy, I have something a little more crazy going on. Since becoming pregnant, I have had about 4 episodes of what feel like "runs" of PVCs. Multiples in a row. They only last for between 10-20 seconds (if even that long) and then stop on their own usually when I cough. (As a side note, I have had a clean echo in the past year, normal EKGs (2) and worn a 24-hour holter monitor, which showed benign PVCs. However, all of this was before I started experiencing these "runs.")

My question is this: I have heard people describe PSVT as feeling like a run of PVCs. When I have these episodes, I don't get light headed (anymore than my normal pregnant self) or dizzy, they just really scare the daylights out of me. I wonder in that short time frame if my heart will ever return to normal or if I am simply going to drop dead. Does this sound like PSVT to you or just a run of PVCs? And in either case, is it dangerous is an otherwise healthy and well-functioning heart? I am currently strapped to a month long event monitor to see if they can catch this happening, but I am still pretty concerned. I have heard of issues like this cropping up during pregnancy, and I was wondering if anyone had any insight or experience with this. Thank you in advance!

I am experiencing the same issues as you are. I am about 11 weeks pregnant and I have been getting SVT since I was pregnant with my daughter in 2004. I don't recall ever getting the PVC's before, but they have started in this pregnancy pretty bad and haven't gone away. I have had an event monitor and Echo, and will find out on monday about the Echo..( I am terrified...) I definately think that it is hormone related but I dont know if I have anything else going on yet that is causing it..
Have you experienced alot of stress lately? I have and I think it is also a reason for it..but probably it is a combination of things. I also have been looking into how pegnancy could cause this. If you have any more info let me know..Good luck w/everything.
