Prescribed Toprol XL

My doctor has prescribed me 25 mg Toprol XL for the PVC's (flutters) I get after I eat. After reading the possible side effects, I am a little leary. Does anyone have any advice? Does anyone know what the common side effects are?

Just surfing and found your note. Have you remained on the ToprolXL?

Your dose is at such a low level I can't imagine you you'll have any side effects, or benefits for that matter. In fact I don't understand the use of Toprol (a beta blocker) to treat PVC, or any rhythm  irregularity.  There are many medications for that, and I've taken both at the same time.  I can't say any have helped be with AFib, but Propafenone may have helped keep me in sinus when converted by other means.

25 mg of Toprol XL is a VERY small dose.  I know plenty of patients at the hospital I work at, that take well into the 100mg + beta blocker regimen.   I would imagine if you had any side effects, they would be minor.  Beta blockers are safer than the anti-arrhythmic drugs that are sometimes used for pvc's.  Toprol XL will lower your heart rate and blood pressure and the sensation of your heart beating.  However, it is unlikely to solve your pvc issues.  Sometimes it works well for people, some people it helps a little, and more people it does not really do anything.  My pvc's were mainly due to anxiety and when I pop a Xanax tab I feel much better.  Anyways, I hope the beta blocker works well for you!

I've been on 50 mg metoprolol twice a day for the last three months with no side effects at all except that my resting heart rate is somewhat low in the forties but even that has not caused any problems.  I have not had the vivid dreams or tiredness that some people mention.  Funny thing though, I have had more PVCs than I did before!

All the best to you.

I 've been taking Toprol for 6 months now. And I have a sister who has been on it for years and the only side effect we have is feeling tired. You do get use to.

Hi!
I take Toprol also. I have been on it for just a few weeks. I really can't complain too much about it, the worst side effects I have encountered has been the tiredness and the vivid dreams. I still have episodes of PVC's, but not as frequent. I was leary too when I first started taking it, I read that one of the side effects was hair loss. What??!! But so far, I've still got all my hair. ;)
I hope it it works well for you and your able to get some reliefe from the PVC's.
Take care!
