Recent ICD replacement

Hi,
My fiancé recent had her original ICD replaced with a new unit.  The new ICD is considerable larger and even after the swelling went down it still protrudes noticeably from her chest, as she is rather petite. She only has one implanted lead.  When we had the surgery done, we just assumed they would put the same ICD style back in, but apparently not.  She vaguely remembers having some discussion with the doctor as she was lying on the table in the cath lab, but I'm pretty sure they has already given her something to relax before wheeling her down.  Question - Is this typical?  Shouldn't any change in device be discussed way before then?

Sounds to me like she needs to have a discussion with her doctor.  I had a pacemaker put in almost three weeks ago and my EP did not discuss the type I was getting other than a duel chamber.  I thought these devices were getting smaller.  I have a Boston Scientific.  If you know what brand she has, you can google it for information.  If she received a temporary card for her device, that information should be on it.  If you still have the old card, you could google that too and see the difference.
