Recently diagnosed with SVT

I have just joined this site.  I'm very upset about this whole thing and having spent the night in the ER I'm also very tired.  I had my 3rd episode last night, my 2nd Monday night and my 1st back in August.  The 1st and 2nd episodes I can attribute to stress, but last night's episode I am at a loss really... I didn't have a stressful day-- at least I didn't think so.  Any comments, suggestions and advice are welcome.  I will read through the posts as I'm sure I'll find some good info.  I prefer to do things natually and not take meds if I don't have to.

Im very young, only 15 actually, but I know alot about this because ive been dealing with it for 3 years, and have been to plenty of doctors. These episodes come randomly, not having to do with your activeness or stress level, I used to have them in the middle of math class. My doctor put me on a heart monitor for a month, instead of the usual 24 hour ones. After they got the recordings, I was diagnosed with SVT. My doctor, like you, likes to avoid medicine if he can. But without medicine or surgery, the epidsodes will continue. I did not take medicine, I simply decided to have a SVT heart ablation surgery. In one day I was in and out of the hospital, and I feel great! I havent had one episode since :) Goodluck with everything.

While I don't want to put a damper on your parade, ablations do not always work. Many times they have to be repeated several times before the SVT is taken care of. I have had SVT for the last 40 years; I use to take meds for the problem, but after starting to have problems hallucinating on the Beta Blockers, I said I quit! Funny thing, I have less problems with SVT now that I'm older, why? I don't know. I still have occasional problems, but on those days, I just don't do much.

Fist thing...try not to worry. Svt is frightening but you are certainy not alone. Many of us here are dealing with the same thing. My svt is much like heidenhope's in that it comes on totally randomly but many people can identify triggers for their attacks such as exercise or caffeine intake. If you do a search on svt in the forums you'll find tons of information. However, your best bet is to make an appointment with an ep doctor. Hopefully your doctor will be able to find the reason for your attacks. While some people do take supplements and claim they help, in my opnion, svt is not something that can easily be cured with vitamins or natural remedies.

thanks for your help.... what's an ep doctor?  I'm seeing a cardiologist tomorrow.

Your cardiologist will probably refer you to and electrophysiologist who is a specialist that deals with the electrical activities of your heart. Good luck on your appointment tomorrow.

I am 12 years old and have SVT for eight years now. It is terrible, but worse in adults.
