SVT AND SKIPPED BEATS

SVT AND SKIPPED BEATS

Hi im sorry if i have not posted this in the right place. im new to this website and its alittle confusing.

I am 25 yr old female from Sydney, Australia. i have been diagnosed with SVT afew years ago. I only have palpitations once or twice a year for 1 or 2 minutes and always stops on there own. 2 months ago i was rushed to emergency because the palpitations would not stop ( although i never tried any of the manouver because nobody had told me they existed) so i was given adenosine. my cardiologist wanted me to have the ablation done. i went and got a 2nd opinion from a professor in cardiology and he said because i have only had 1 bad attack he does not want me to have the ablation done at the moment and just wait and see how i go. im also not on any medication. SVT has never botherd me in the past because its never effected my life much ( i even 4get i have it seeing as its so minor). i also get skipped beats which last for a split second every now and then.i have noticed them alittle more often latley though but im not sure if its due to anxiety because of having a scare and going to hospital 2 months ago. it sort of shook me up and now i notice every little thing my heart or body does. i notice the skipped beats more when i lean forward or bend over.

3 doctors have told me these skipped beats are infact an extra beat but it just feels like a skipped beat, and that they are totaly normal and alot of people get them and there absolutley nothing to worry about. is this true? and is SVT benign like they tell me it is?

i have had 4 ecgs, 1 eko and 3 blood tests. all came back normal. only the 1st ecg showed the SVT because they did it while having the palpitations in emergency.

Thankyou

The "skipped" beats are often just an early beat with a compensatory pause afterwards. Many people have them - some just a few a day, some have thousands a day. In a normal heart they're not a big danger.

The SVT (sounds like yours is PSVT) is generally harmless unless it happens often and lasts a long time. I've had it all my life (I'm 56 now). Before my ablations my PSVT would happen almost daily and would last up to 45 minutes. Very uncomfortable. It wasn't until 9 years ago someone mentioned ablation to me. I've had 3 ablations done. Now I still have PSVT, usually a few a week but they're like yours, usually brief, less than a minute, rarely 5 minutes. And I'm considered cured LOL

It's good that you got a second opinion on the ablation. Don't be afraid to ask for more information. The decision will be yours.

my uncle just had his ablation done because he was getting the attacks once every 2 or 3 weeks and for 3 hours at a time.

all my doctors have told me i have nothing to worry about and nothing serious. i just freekd out because iv never been to hospital before or had anything wrong with me. a trip to the dentist is rare for me lol.

thanx alot for taking the time to reply to me i appreciate it

take care

I would not worry too much unless you start getting lots of symptoms that make life hard for you. Always keep note that you have it and keep an eye on it over the years but unless it gets worse I'm sure the Dr are right it's not likly to hurt you or reduce your life expectancy.

Have you eva checked your pulse when your not having palpitation. I was recently diagnoised with Inappropraite sinus tachycardia. I have palps every now and then as well but it was not till I got my self a HR monitor for the gym that I discovered I was tachy every time I was standing up. Max rate was 185 walking slow. Adverage was 150. I'm sure your fine but I was curious if you ever taken your pulse at times when your dont have palp's. I had no direct heart type symptoms just leg pain and intence fatiuge and when I walked I often felt like I was going to pass out or fall down.

Take it easy if your confused about the different oppinions from the Dr's talk to a 3rd but personally if it's not making life hard I would not want to have it done.
