Second Opinion

I am currently taking 50 mg daily for Sinus Tachycardia.  My heart rate seems to be under control.
(70 bpm)  I also have PAC's.  My primary physcian wants to increase my Toporol another 50 mg
because of the PAC's.  Will this control the PAC's?  If so, should the increase in medication be
more gradual?  I am very concerned about doubling the dosage.

If the pac's cause symptoms, it may help decrease the symptoms.  It doesn't necessarily decrease the pac's nor is it that important to decrease the number of pac's.  Pac's are not dangerous.

It is not likely that increasing metoprolol will cause any problems. The decision to increase metoprolol for pac's is usually based on symptoms.  If you don't want to increase it, just ask your doctor why they want to increase it.  They may have a very good reason, they also might be doing it because they think you are having symptoms.

If you feel more comfortable increasing it slowing, this is not a problem.  Just ask your doctor how they want you to do it.

I hope this helps.
