Seeking professional advice

by k8t441, Oct 18, 2009 05:33AM
Hi- I have a friend who's been suffering with palpitations for several months now. She's 30. She gets sharp, heavy chest pain intermittently . She feels very clammy and breathless. She always has very cold hands but since being started on Verapamil 2 weeks ago her left hand shakes uncontrollably. Is this a side effect of Verapamil ? She has poor circulation in the hand . She is unable to sleep due to the palpitations. Her resting heart rate can be 143 !! She is awaiting an appointment with a Catrdiologist. She has had lots of blood tests, ECG's etc, but they cannot find a cause ? She has a moderate degeree of stress.  Waht could cause the shaking ?

I'm goona pull a guess out of you-know-where but it sounds like anxiety/panic.

I would suggest a combo of a beta blocker and a benzo in the short term to get her calmed down.  THis could be Xanax in the short term + inderal (I would say 20mg t.i.d.).   If this is effective I would switch her to clonopin for a more long term approach until she can get the PAD under control.

First things first, I would go after the sleep because without it the PAD is just going to keep getting worse and worse.

As I noted in your post a few hours after this post:

This Community (Forum) is populated by patients, not medical professionals. So, the best you can hope for here is someone will recognize the symptoms and tell you what their experience is.  There is a pay-for "Ask a Doctor Forum"  in MedHelp that may be able to help too, see:  http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Heart-Rhythm/show/91
