Skipped Heart Beat

Skipped Heart Beat

Last night I played a very vigorious game of squash.  My pulse was very very rapid and I felt afterwards that my heart was skipping a beat.  This lasted for about 1/2 hour.  I have felt this again this morning.   I have no chest pain or any other symptons of heart problems

I suffer from sever anxiety, panic attacks and slight depression.  Could this be the anxiety doing this.  I was very anxious at the time with my heart beating fast and I am very very anxious about it.

Any comments would be appreciated.

How fast are you talking about, more than 200 bpm?  Did it drop back some, but stay high (say near 100) for a long period?

Your problems with anxiety... could be a cause or even the cause.  If you continue to have very high HR episodes (I assume you are middle age or younger), e.g., over 200, you should discuss with your doctor.

I am 38 years old.  I don't know what my heart rate was at the time of exercise.  But with my anxiety it stayed around 90-100.

I went to the ed department of the hospital and ecg and blood tests were normal.  My anxiety is very bad, I have a fear of having a massive heart attack.  The doctors said it was due to my anxiety.  The only thing that was a little high was my thyroid, normal range is 10-20 and mine was 19, but they said it wasn't high enough for medication.

Are you taking any medications or other treatment for you anxiety?  This seems to be a central if not only source of our HR behavior.  I think this is now the condition to get treated.

A resting HR of 90-100 is high, but anything under 100 is usually not treated in my experience.  That said, I do take medication to push my resting HR down toward 70, but I have a diagnosed atrial fibrillation condition and the resting rate goes as high as 130 without medication - or it did in the past.

I am taking lexotan only when needed but it doesn't seem to be working at the moment.  It seems to be the anxiety because when I think about my heart skipping beats it does it.  The doctor did tell me it possibly wasn't skipping beats, when it beats fast and the heart realises it trys to slow down.

So if there was anything major wrong it would have shown up in ecg or blood tests wouldnt it?
