Strange Rhythm

About 3 months ago I started having the strangest episodes.  They went like so:

I get a feeling like I really have to burp, or that I'm gassy.  This will lead to a ticklish feeling in the heart.  My heart then starts to beat from around 60 bpm up to 90 bpm completely randomly.  Example: my heart will beat 4 times fast around 90 bpm, then 3 times slow around 60 bpm, then back up to 90 bpm for 8 beats, so on.  This occurs for HOURS and sometimes all day now.

I went to the doctor as this was really freaking me out and they ordered a ECG (or EKG, can't remember which) and also a 48-hour holter monitor.

This is where the weird part comes in: they didn't find anything of worry in either test.  This just seems to weird to me that there wouldn't be something wrong when that exact rhythm goes on for hours and sometimes all day.  I don't particularly feel dizzy when it happens, and if I go running or biking and accelerate my heart rate it starts beating perfectly normal, but it seems more-so to happen when I lay down or slouch while sitting.  It also seems to be related to acid reflux or how gassy I am.

Has anyone heard of this before?  I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!  Thanks!

It sounds like some sort of possible benign ectopic activity.  Sometimes when we have a few of these extra beats our heart compensates and beats a bit faster or it is possible your acid reflux is just annoying the heart a bit.  when the vagus nerve gets stimulate from things like acid reflux or even just too big of a meal then it can cause the heart to act up.  If you want more clarification ask for the records of your monitor and see what it says.  You are not crazy.  A lot of people have this and if the heart is healthy you are in no danger.  It is just more annoying than anything else.  Work on your acid reflux and hopefully it will go totally away for you.  Take care

Thank you so much for your response!  I was freaking out thinking that I had some crazy arrhythmia or something.  Glad to hear this could just be a goofy response from my acid reflux.  I have been trying to exercise more and eat a little better but it seems like it's only the acid reflux that irritates it.  Thank you again, I'm much less anxious now.  :)
