Stress/echo results

Today I had my stress/echo (following a visit to the ER with Afibs a few weeks ago)

The doctor said my heart is fine. He would not let me stay on the treadmill as long as I would have liked. Stopped it when my HB was 149. (I'm 72)  I was disappointed, as I wanted to see how high I could go, but he said it was not a "medical necessity"!

Anyway I am on a BB and he said to come in in April for a re-check.

He warned me that if the Afibs occur more than once a week and/or last longer than an hour I will need a different or another medication than the BB.

He said to keep to my usual routine and okayed my running a half-marathon next month.

I am very relieved and just hope I won't need any more meds.

Ohhh, that's not a funny thing for him to say to a patient who is expressing difficulty in getting his attention. As Jerry mentioned, this Aspirin is very important for you to take since you are not on Coumadin.

With Afib, you are at an increased risk for stroke due to clots from the atria fibrillating. If you are not already taking it, and don't have any reason that you can't take it...Don't wait on this Dr who seems to have ADD, just start on your own.

Happy Holidays to you too!:) and a Happy, healthy 2009!

Jerry, is the aspirin recommended because it is a blood thinner?  I will ask my doctor.

The cardiologist just told me "Your heart is fine". When I asked him about some ectoptic beats during the test, he wasn't concerned. I also have a one degree left bundle block which doesn't worry either doctor either.

He will send a copy of the test to my internist who will explain the findings.

I'm curious too, but the cardiologist is one of these busy, busy guys who has a hard time sitting still for you to answer any questions.

I told him yesterday "It is so HARD to get your attention!"  He just laughed and said he has attention deficit disorder.

Thanks Brooke!

I will try hard not to anticipate any problems. I know from experience that I can sometimes bring on irregular heartbeats, PVCs or Afibs, just by worrying about them.

Happy Holidays to you too!

You didn't mention taking aspirin.  Given you may have some periods of Afib, I suggest you take a full dose of aspirin (325mg) every day. Take with one of your regular meals.

You didn't give any particulars about your echo(cardiogram?) is that because no problems were found?

Awwww, what good news for you:) I'm so happy you were able to get this news heading into the holidays...Now you can have a rested mind and enjoy yourself!

There is truth to what the Dr mentioned about the possibility of more frequent Afib episodes. Electrically the AFIB attacks tend to become longer and more
frequent: “AFIB begets AFIB.”  I wouldn't worry about this right now...I always say, cross that bridge when you get to it:)

Now just go and enjoy your holidays and try not to worry about this:)
