Surgery while taking atenolol

I recently have been looking to have some cosmetic surgery done and have been on atenolol for about a month for anxiety and sinus tachycardia (no major heart problems were found) I am 28 yrs, 134lbs, 5'6 ft.... I have had minor side effects such as:

shortness of breath but no longer have it
resting heart rate of 55-60

My question is has anyone had non-cardiac surgery or is surgery even safe while taking beta blockers.....I have read some really scary clinical trials lately over people being given beta blockers and dieing

Ive been on Atenolol for at least 17 years. Ive had my appendix out..(that was emergency surgery..so no time to even stop the Atenolol ahead of time)....and surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in my wrist. Both times, I was on the atenolol. I think they just had me stop it the day before---I remember it was absolutly no big deal whatsoever...I dont think anything special even had to be done....you should be fine, but I would ask these questions of your anesthesiologist--if you are being given any anesthetic drugs at all...

As a user of Metoprolol I don't recall any concern about being on beta blockers for dental surgery - the only serious surgery I had was open heart surgery and best I can remember I went off of all medications the day before surgery.

Your doctor should advise you on such matters.  Don't you have a pre-surgery process to go through?  That should tell you what you need to know and give you an easy way to ask questions.
