HEART RHYTHM EXPERT FORUM

The light has turned on.

Hi, I have never done this before. I have been having heart palpitation, (heart rate going up to 160 for app 6 hours, approximately twice a month.) Yesterday I went to my Dr who did an ekg. She said I did not have afib (my fear) because that would show up even when my heart was not palpitating. She switched me from lisinopril to atenolol. Already, after 2 doses, 50mg I feel like I am thing much more clearly. Is this valid? I feel like I have been living somewhat in a cloud mentally so this seems like a Godsend. Is there any practical thing to validate this? thank you  Connie Guthrie

Atenolol blocks the adrenaline receptor.  If your are frequently stressed, a beta blocker will sometimes help people feel more relaxed.

A monitor will help determine what the heart rhythm is -- there are many things it could be besides atrial fib.  If you were frequently stressed, it could just be your normal rhythm beating quickly.
