Very scary

I have had these episodes since I have been 17. I am now 55 and I run a fitness facility, was a consistant runner, taught classes, still work out daily. I go annually to a cardiologist due to a horrible family heredity for heart disease. I just went for my check up 3 weeks ago ekg was great everything good. Last Sat I started for a whole week with the pvc's again out of the blue. I have been on a beta blocker since 2011 for a little fast HR. they increased my metoporal er a little at the hospital on Sat. They monitored me, drew blood, everything normal. I am so sick of living in anxiety over this. Will the beta blocker help? Ive read that this is a course of treatment for this.

I have conflicting information concerning betas and PVC's. I was once told that the symptoms of PVCs are lessened by beta blockers, but that they still occur. When I take Toprol XL though, I could swear I get no PVC's at all.

Hello,

Sometimes, out of the blue, I will go into a vicious PVC cycle. I have been on Beta Blockers for years. I think they help, but what also helps me, is no worrying about them. If you have been checked, and all is ok, perhaps the Beta Blockers will have a calming effect as well.
I hope yours go away, and give you some return to peace of mind.

Best to you

If your heart is still structurally fine they are still likely nothing to worry about unless you are having them upwards around 20,000 a day.  Odds are you will never be totally free from them and they can come and go.  Watch any stomach issues as well do try to address any stress and anxiety as that will surely make them worse and even be the trigger for them.  Considering you have a family history of heart disease it might be wise to see your cardiologist for a check up if you haven't been for a while.  From what I understand beta blockers are the first line of defense against pvcs so it is worth a shot.  If it doesn't help or creates more issues then good you can always wean off the higher does.   Best of luck and I do hope you feel better soon.
