Weight gain and PVC's

Weight gain and PVC's

Hi, my name is Chad.  My wife Jennifer is over weight and and anxitey. (sorry for the spelling).  She has had more and more PVC's.  I try to tell her that it's the stress from her weight and anxitey that she is having.  But she doesn't believe me.  I just want to know if being over weight can cause PVC's.  I know that being over weight puts stress on your heart.  So I figure that, if the stress from weight is there then the PVC's will happen.  Thanks for your time.

I don't know of any direct relationship between over weight and PVC, but that may depend on how much one is overweight.  Twenty pounds, say, may not be a big deal, but 100 may well be.

If one's weight or the concern it raises in others, causes the person to have anxiety, well then I'd say the weight had an indirect affect of PVC, I believe anxiety can cause hearth rhythm problems, PVC, not sure, again.

Well, she is over a 100lbs over weight.  She just worry's and I want to be there to tell her that she is ok. Thanks for your input and advice on my post.  Do you know how long it takes for a doc. to respond, or if they do at all? As she exercises the PVC's tend to decrease.  That is a good sign right?  Well thanks again.

This Rhythm Community is made up of non-medical people who are patients and, like me, reply to posts based on their personal experience, not medical training.  So, it is not medical advice. Some people may be nurses or other in the medical field, but all to my share their experience, and do not give medical advice.

In many cases a problem scenario is one someone else had direct experience with, so their experience is usually very helpful.

To your question, I think 100 pounds over weight is enough to cause a lot of problems, even if the person is a large person.  I am almost 6'6" myself, and begin to feel the strain when I get 25 pounds over my preferred weight, which for me is about 220.

There is another MedHelp facility, the Forums, that offer medical doctor advice, and there is a nominal charge, I don't know what it is, I don't use it myself.  See for example:  http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Heart-Rhythm/show/91

Hi Chad,

I am 40 years old and was diagnosed with Idiopathic Cardiomyopathy about 5 years ago.  I have constant pvcs (sometimes worse than others) but only weigh about 110 pounds.  I am not a doctor but work for cardiologists and it is completely normal for the pvcs to resolve during exercise.  Although i haven't heard of any correlation  to pvcs and weight, the added weight will definitely put stress on her heart as well as all of her other organs.  If you can convince her to get a complete cardiac workup to ease her mind (24 hr holter monitor; echocardiogram or stress echo; and EKG) and then encourage her into a wellness program for exercise and risk factor modification she will no doubt begin to feel better.
