Weird Chest/Heart discomfort plus other things

Hey guys,

First time posting here..

Ok this is going to be kinda long but please read. Im a 23 year old male and since I was 18 I've had weird Chest/Heart discomfort. It all started when I was about 14 sometimes when I would breath I would get a sudden shock in my heart area for a few seconds but would only happen once every few months. I told my parents and went to the doctors, I had all sorts of tests done but nothing was wrong with me. These lasted till when I was 16. During my school time I was very active and fit and always playing sport during recess and lunchtime always eating healthy aswell. I had an incident where i used to get weird stomach aches which resulted in loud stomach hunger type sounds and became really embarrassing and eventually turned in an anxiety thing for me, where I had to make sure I went to the toilet before school start so I wouldn't get these weird stomach sounds, I know when I did get anxiety my heart would thump really hard in my chest.

Now School ended and I went into University, and my active life style came to a stop as I was studying so much and never had time to do any sports or go to gym, about 6 months into University is where the problems started...After long periods of times sitting in a chair i would start to get fast heart beat/pounding heart but this didn't happen all the time. When my first year finished for the Christmas holidays me and my mates joined a gym and indoor soccer club which my  heart issues stopped. Following year same thing again....couple months into it all the long periods of time sitting down brought on my fast heart but this year was a bit different...I would get this very inpatient restless feeling like I had to just jump up and go for a run I was studying more so I was also sitting for long period of time at home after University so my chest felt like there was a butterfly in it, kinda fluttery heart beat. I had this for the rest of the year.

My third year was same as last,  and my 4th year I started full time work to which just kept me sitting down all day and night working, but my problems would go always during the Christmas holidays as I would be active, during this year I started to take fish oil which seemed to help alot. Im now into my 5th year and my symptoms have changed a little bit, I still take fish oil but now even after a full days of work I don't get fast heart rate until about 9pm. Its always around 9 pm aswell...I start  to get fast heart beat, fluttery feeling and discomfort in my chest and also back pain. Presently im still on my  Christmas holidays and for the past month ive been getting these weird feeling always around 9 pm till  I sleep but waking up in the morning and im all ok.  My life style has made me really lazy and kinda hard for me to feel active and want to do sports again but I have this very over whelming feeling I just need to run  every day for at least 20kms. Im not to sure what is wrong with me if its a Mental thing or what but I think its really time for me to start seriously asking questions and going back to the doctors.

Any help would be much appreciate !!

Cheers.

Ive been taking Vit B complex and Vit D viatims aswell as the Fish oill which seems to work really well but I still get a very slight discomfort feeling towards late into the night. Some nights I dont have the fast heart rate but I jsut have the discomfort feeling but my heart seems to be at a very low rate...

The extra beats are likely to pop in when your heart rate is slower so when you finally sit down to relax your heart rate likely slows and the beats pop in.  It is possible when you work out your heart rate stays elevated a bit more than when you don't work out.  I know mine does.  Not terribly much higher but the difference could be what is causing you to have the ectopics when you stop working out.  I have heard people mention taking magnesium.  I might think about getting your levels checked though before you start to take any.  If you take antacids they do deplete you of it so a supplement may be warranted but it is always wise to make sure there is a need because some supplements can be harmful if too much is taken.  So maybe go and get some blood work done to check all your electrolytes and ask that the magnesium be checked as well.  Take care.

Hey thanks for your reply :)

Ive never heard of PAC or PVC before. Ive done some research and it seems to suggest this is my problem. Yea ive been under alot of stress and for awhile with anxiety from other things. I didn't think it affect you that much to be honest.

I usually eat around 7 pm - most of the time its always food healthy food. What i Dont understand is why does it only happen when I sit down all day and when Im active I never happens. Ive been at home on holidays for over a month and this problem has happened every night but before this time when  I was going to the gym it never happened. I read somewhere taking magnesium supplements can help but is this a myth or fact ??

Thanks for your help Michelle

It is very likely you are having some sort of ectopic beat issue, pacs or pvcs.  In an otherwise healthy heart these are not a threat.  Stress and stomach issues can aggravate them.  What time do you eat?  Is it near 9PM and what do yo consume?  Diets high in carbohydrates are a pretty big trigger for my pvcs.  That said, you should probably get checked out by a doctor considering you seem to indicate you feel as though your heart is speeding up.  If this happens everyday a 24 hour monitor should do the trick but if it is a bit more elusive a 30 day event monitor would work as well.  But the important thing to note is most of these odd heart things are generally nothing of too great concern unless a person has an unhealthy heart.  So go and get these symptoms diagnosed and your heart evaluated as well do your best to work on any stress as that will surely make what you are feeling worse.  Take care and keep us posted on how you are doing.
