What are causing these Heart Palpitations??

by stargiirl, Oct 20, 2009 02:30PM
Friday morning I twisted my ankle and after work when I got home I was in so much pain! So I took a Lortab to help ease the pain. About 30 minutes later I started having palpitations. They were light and not to bothersome. I figured maybe I had to much salt at dinner. Saturday I was feeling great and didn't think anything of it. By the time I got home I popped another lortab to help ease the pain and it started again. This time it was more and it bothered me quite a bit. I just figured it was salt again. But I started thinking otherwise. I had them all night and didn't sleep well! The next day I was so miserable and I was having them all day. I was in a fog and I could hardly stay awake. Monday morning I got up early and went to go see my dr. We went over everything, including my thyroid medicine and Zoloft. She asked how the Zoloft was working and I was honest with her. I have only taken the Zoloft once and it was 3 weeks ago. My Dr swears up and down that, thats what's causing these palpitations. But does this sound right?Could it be the Zoloft from 3 weeks ago or could this be a side effect from the Lortab. They were perscribed to me for staph infection and I didn't have any symptoms from them then.
I am still having palpitations and I am worried that it could be something worse. She didn't run or order any test. She told me in 2 weeks if I was still having them to come back and see her or go to the Emergency Room. Has anyone else had these problems? Should I get a second opinion?

I'm not familiar with the medication is question, but given the apparent relationship, I'd say "Stop Doing That" or taking that.  Try aspirin for pain, I'm sure that will not cause palps.

I also wonder about you concern about salt.  If you are using a lot of salt, cut back.  There is such a thing as unhealthy salt intake.

As for the Zolof, not sure you doctor isn't saying you're having palps becaue you are not taking the prescription, not that you took it once three weeks ago.  Not sure here either.

Most palps are not dangerous, so the doctor seems to think you have time to let your body "work it out", and that's best if it works.

Think about what I said about about cutting back and not doing or taking stuff that uspsets you.
