ablation

ablation

I started about 6 months ago with PVC,s. They were daily for about 3 months. Had echo and wore a 24 hr monitor which showed 4 thousand daily. Was placed on a beta blocker which did not help and made me extremely tired. I then was switched to a calcium channel blocker which for the most part worked but I still did not like the way I felt.  I was symptom free for about 2 months and then pvc's returned for another week on a daily basis I had one episode of syncope which has not been determined if it was related to my arrthymia. I always feel like there is something stuck in the back of my throat and am aware of my heart beating. Does anyone else get this feeling? I am currently off my medication and recently had a 21 day monitor. During the 21 days that I wore the monitor I hardly felt any pvc.s. The monotor did show a few runs of v tach.  I am scheduled for an ablation in a few weeks. I am confused as to whether I should have this done because my symptoms come for a few weeks on a daily basis and then disapperar for weeks at a time. I am open to any advise.

I have had pvc's for years and have always been told that mine were harmless. I have had many echocardiograms and worn holter monitors and am always told that my heart was normal and healthy and that the pvc's were just something I sholud tolerate. If fact the last cardiologist I spoke to said he did not treat asymptomatic pvc's.Your specific situation may be different but an ablation to treat just pvc's seems aggressive. I also was not aware that ablations could cure pvc's. I thought ablations were was a-fib,a-flutter and other tachycardias.

It's a tough decision. My advice would be to make sure you have a highly skilled ep who knows what he's doing. Have you tried a second opinion?  I had an ablation for SVT 3 months ago. I only had 3 or 4 attacks a year but I never knew when it would happen. It really affected my quality of life. I haven't had an attack since the ablation and to know that I may never have one again is very comforting. PVCs are a little harder to ablate, that's why you want to make sure to get a reputable ep and I would go for the 2nd opinion.
