I am considering having an ablation for SVT, and was wondering if anyone out there has had this procedure?

hey
u will find loads in here who have had ablation's for svt and other rhythm's.it is 95% successful in curing the rhythm and would be considered as micro surgery.if your svt is an everyday thing and is inpacting on your day to day activites it may be worth considering also most are able to come off meds which is a good bonus,
an ablation is done during a ep study where catheters are placed usually in the groin up into the heart in order to study the cardiac electrical system, this is where mapping takes place, the electrical system is important because it controls the heart rhythm, and abnormalities in the electrical system are responsible for most heart arrhythmias, here the ep specialist will pace the heart in order to locate  the svt rhythm ans its origin and if possible ablate or burn it to stop any recurrence in the future,,,i had mine about a year ago and have found it to be a great help as mine was active everyday ,mine went on for about 31/2 hrs and was a little bit un-comfortable as i was awake during it but a few days rest and i was good ,,,the only small complication maybe bleeding at the area where the catheters are inserted but this is controlled with pressure once they are removed ,,i am sure there will be others post on this so i will just say if u are worried ,u will get a nice bit of support in here if u deicide to go ahead and if your ep thinks u are a good candidate for this

Hi.  I had an ablation done close to 2 months ago.  It really depends on what your doctor recommends but so far, so good for me.  If you want more info about the procedure, let me know.

Hi,
I had an ablation on Aug. 4th for AVNRT. I dealt with SVT for 36 years and finally decided to do something about it. For me, it was the best thing I could have done for myself. I'd be happy to answer any questions you  might have as you decide what to do. What kind of arrythmia problems are you having?

I had my ablation for SVT 4 yrs ago. It was a real blessing to be without meds for that length of time. Gradually this last year I have been getting occasional PVCs. At the end of June I had a bad attack of SVT for which I was treated with adenosine in the ER. I read up on tyhe ablation process and found that it frequently fails after 2 to 4 yrs. I was disheartened. I am now on meds that are full of side effects and not stopping the problem. Another ablation is not always the answer. I want to let you know that I still think the original was worth it for the 4 years of peace and it was a simple, not painful procedure where you are pleasantly sedated but slightly aware of what's going on. Good luck. Let us know waht you decide.
