Am at 24 yr old female. My heart beats abnormally fast and hard especially at night when I have retired in bed. I have noticed that when I eat egg or milk it beats harder. Please help me. What could be wrong with me.

thank you for replying. no I haven't experienced any rash or tightness in my throat, But what you said about gas might be it because milk gives me a lot of gas and then the palps. so I will stay away from milk and egg. you were very helpful. thank you.

Palpitations are usually harmless although its a very uncomfortable sensation. You said you had consumed milk and eggs. A milk allergy can cause heart palps as your immune system attacks the proteins within the milk with different chemicals which have this effect on the cardiovascular system. Have you experienced this while having a rash or tightness in your throat? If so then you should see an allergologist. Sometimes palps may be caused by gas. But if you do experience these symptoms often you should see a gp for some test as recurrent palp episodes could be a sign that your heart is not well. Hope this helps you. Please get back to me with more questions if you are not sure about something. Hope all goes well.

You could have an allergy to eggs/milk... try lactose-free milk and avoid eggs and see what happens.

You haven't given enough information for anyone to guess (we are only guessing here) if you have serious symptoms.

What is your resting heart rate, you blood pressure, how irregular - constant or just intermittent (say a missing or extra beat every few seconds)?

What is your emotional state when the heart symptoms are active, you say at bed time, do you worry or feel anxious when you try to go to sleep?

There can be a lot of issues causing the heart to beat irregularly - not just heart problems.

If you stomach can take it I think taking an aspirin with food each day a good precaution - if this continues or gets worse see a doctor. If you haven't seen a doctor for a general check up, physical, in a few years, make an appointment to be checked.
