accelerated heart rate

Hello , when i was 21 i went running at the local track and felt that i might of over exerted myself.  One or Two nights after i woke up with a strange sensation in the back of my lower head.
not a cramp feeling but like a weird sensation. I got up and felt week and a weird sensation kinda all over my chest andf especiially below my rib cage area  I then felt kinda or faintish, my heart then began to beat really fast as i made my way from the bed to the couch in the living room. The paramedics arrived and my heartrate was at 140ish at that time. They ran the heart heart monitor equipment at the hospital and had one of those 24 hr monitors on me and didnt notice one thing wrong. It was a feeling like oh here it goes (tenses up) and then finally my heart started racing.I do have somewhat high blood pressure last time i checked it was 140/80-90 with a pulse of 68. I am overweight. After the first incident i was put on  beta blocker(atenolol) and had that reoccurring "oh here it goes tenseness" frquently right after but not so much at all anymore. I have had 3 main bouts the first one and the other two it didnt go into full  accelerated rush mode. but i was doing strenuous  activities.

The last time i was in the gym, Jogged about 15 minutes, felt i didnt push myself to bad, rested for a little bit, went over to the chest press machine and did an 8 rep set ( weight i could do without to much strain) I stopped exercising for the day.. after that 8 reps i couldnt get my heart rate down for probably 30-45 minutes. it probably was about 118-150 when i was done with the 8 reps i felt like i coudnt recover like i was still running. the thing is this last time was the least strenous activity compared to the other 2. I should also mention that after doing the chest press i felt a weird sensation on the front left side of my neck.. this situation occured 3 -4 days ago.

I am worried to exercise now. i am 27 years old.

Thanks for helping,
                    Jake

I agree, exercise if good, and I add too much exercise if bad.

Start slow and work your way up.  Don't quit exercising.

You say you are overweight, that could be a big part of the problems:  getting into a stronger physical condition, and high blood pressure.

Focus on exercise that use the large muscle: legs, but again start slow and build up.  The exercise will strengthen you cardiovascular and burn calories.  So, even if you don't cut down on your calorie intake, you can lose weight via exercise...careful not to increase you intake.

If you do this consistently and you don't find any improvement in a couple of months (keep records on how far, how fast, how often... and HRs) this is how you know if your are getting stronger, numbers don't lie.

Hi Jake
Have you tried to swin instead of jogging? My cardiolgist suggests me swimming is good to me.

I understand what you mean" I am worried to exercise now". months ago, I have same situation, after jogging and my heart seems going to jump out from my throat, then I refuse to go jogging anymore and was really scared/worried to any exercise. However, few months later, I found my immune system gets pretty bad, catching flu very easily and last-long and very ill even just a simple flu, so I decide to recover my regular exercise again, but just go slow jogging in shorter distance or swiming from time to time.

Never give up the exercise, this is what my doctor suggests me.

Wish you best
