afib after ablation

I had catheter ablation procedure on Thrusday. The following Saturday, I had AFIB for about 12 hours. Does this mean that the ablation was unsuccessful? Is it correct that the effectiveness of the procedure increases as scar tissue develops? How period will I need to wait to know how effective the ablation procedure was in controlling or eliminating AFIB.

I had my catheter ablation December 4, 2008.  I am still having heart palpitations.  They are lessoning in intensity as time goes by.  But the first few weeks it was CONSTANT heart palpitations with heart beating 100-110 at rest and you don't even want to know what it was just walking around. Try eating some bananas or apples to help.  I know the bananas are high in potassium, I don't know why but I see others recommending the apples or apple juice so can't hurt and it's yummy.  My cardiologist just blew me off saying heart palpitations were completely normal after the procedure and gave me arapamil which REALLY caused some crazy side effects.

Anyway, it seemed to be worse at night when it was quiet because then I had to focus on that and couldn't sleep.  Anxiety will make it even worse.  Nothing like a panic attack brought on by anxiety from the heart palps and the heart palps getting worse because of the panic attack.  It's a crazy deal and you feel crazy...but your not.  It will get better.

I had a PVI ablation for afib about 3 weeks ago. My EP said that it takes a full 3 months before the heart heals from the procedure. So you have a ways to go before you get the final verdict.

My EP also stressed that I was to notify him immediately if I had any afib or aflutter. If you haven't already, you might want to contact your EP tomorrow and let him or her know what's happening with you.

Best of luck to you in your recovery and I hope that's the last afib you experience!

I believe it takes several weeks for the hear to heal from the ablation, and it must fully heal before you will know how successful the procedure is/was.
