aorta question

by kyfan, Oct 04, 2009 06:34PM
Another question I am curious about. I am 26, 5'10, 128lbs. Fairly healthy overall. I thought I might have had marfans but the cardiologist I saw said no. Since June, I have had a chest x-ray (for unrelated matter), which was normal, ekgs, which have come back normal, wore a 48-hour holter monitor. I also had a echocardiogram in August which came back as normal. My question is, can echocardigrams detect anything wrong with the aorta? Can I rest easy knowing that mine is fine based on the test results? Just curious, thanks.

Yes, I believe the echocardiogram (I've had several over the years) measures all physical operations of the heart, including: operation of all valves, flow efficiency, wall thickness, and sizes of all chambers... and more that I don't know anything about.

I consider the echocardiogram one of the greatest tools yet invented to analyze the physical heart, and all with only sound wave, on invasive actions taken, if you don't object to sound waves passing through your body....I don't.
