An extra systole is an extra heart beat either arising from the Atria (pac) or ventricles (pvc).  The disruption of the extra beat in the normal beat cycle can trigger a tachycardia event especially in cases of avnrt which is an extra pathway (muscle fiber) leading into the avnode that causes the signal to get stuck in a loop.  Most of the time it is a pac that will trigger an svt (supraventricular tahcycardia) event but for some people like myself it was a pvc that would trigger my avnrt.
