atenolol for svt

atenolol for svt

Is anybody on atenolol for svt and how has it worked in controlling it and how much ? Im on 50mg daily and have been taking it for about 5 weeks. It started out working ok now it seems to not be working as well. I had a episode last night and this morning for about 15 min. I hate it! When i first started taking it I cut the pill in half to avoid any side effects now Im taking the whole the whole pill for the last couple of days. I called the cardio. today to see if my dose should be increased. They called me back yet.sometimes i wonder if it could be hormonal  I am 42.  donna

Sounds like you are on the right track.  I assume the medication is a beta blocker.  I take between 100 and 200 mg a day of Metoprolol to lower my HR.  I don't like taking 200 mg as I think it causes me to have "bad" dreams.  That is a possible side-effect for BB, but the selective BB tend to be less problematic, and my is, so maybe I just have "bad" dreams.

Anyway, you may need a higher dose, and I understand it is not a good idea to change dose levels without your doctor's approval, especially don't suddenly stop taking the mediation.

It's not uncommon to have to titrate up meds as some tolerance builds.  The good news is you can titrate them up!
