atrial fibrillation after ablation

atrial fibrillation after ablation

I had an ablation 2 days ago. (4/29/10 Last night I had an episode of afib lastin at least 3 hours and converted during the night.  My blood pressure went down to 76/50 and I felt terrible. The rate was 145 at the highest.  I am on Toprol 25mg bid, Lisinopril 20 mg. qd, .  I was told by my doc to wait until Monday (5-3-10) before restarting Coumadin due to a large hematoma at the left groin from the procedure.  How long does this go on before they consider a second ablation?

You heart underwent "surgery", and it take a lot more than two days before one can say how successful the procedure was.  I think intermittent AFib is common... what condition was being treated/ablated?

From what I have read on this community you should feel better soon, ongoing, but you full healing with take a month or more.

I had an ablation for both a-fib and a-flutter in January 08. About 2 weeks after the procedure, I suffered from 2 episodes of a-fib, both lasting a few hours. I was on an event monitor at the time, so the episodes were captured and my EP was informed. Both times they did convert on their own. At the time I was on Sotalol, Cardizem and Coumadin. My EP told me these events were normal, and that it can take up to 6 months for your heart to heal. I am happy to say that I have not had any more a-fib or flutter episodes. I just celebrated my 2 year anniversary of being in NSR. I am off all meds too. Give your heart some time to heal. Don't be surprised if you have some PVC"S and/or PAC"S also. I did have some of these too for a couple of months after. This is normal also. Good Luck in your recovery. Wishing you well, and wishing you enough...

I had a ablation done on Feb 4th 2010. I had skipped beats and then the last week of March, I had 2 episodes of AFib within 3 days. I was taking tikosyn, but after those episodes that change me to aminoadrone. I asked the doctor what would happen if this medication did not help until my heart fully healed and they said that would have to do it again. I go back to doctor in June.

Sorry to hear you had an episode right after ablation. I have had ablation last week and like others have said, it takes some time to recover completely. My EP said it can vary in time, some are quick and back into action with-in a month, others here have stated all the way up to 6 months. Now my type of SVT was more common and easier to cure, I know AF is more difficult but successful none the less. Don't throw yourself into panic and think it was a failure. We're here for you.

It must have been scary to have an episode so soon after ablation. I am almost 4 weeks out after ablation for Afib  and pvcs/pacs. So far on coumadin 3mg and thats all until my levels go to between 2 and 3. Hopefully I"ll be on aspirin soon. Some slight pvcs very occasionaly but nothing major. Try to remember that it takes awhile for your heart to recognize that the old pathways are closed due to repairs and the new road is being constructed as you breathe and relax into your healing. Good luck.
