Kevin,
It is common for people with hyperthyroidism to have atrial fib and it usually does resolve after the thyroid normalizes.  It may take a cardioversion (shock) to restore your heart rhythm to normal.

Hyperthyroidism often causes the rates of atrial fib to be rapid and difficult to control with medications.  Beta blockers usually help improve the symptoms.

Time is the only way to know if it is going to fix itself.

Thyroid hormones have an affect on just about every function in your body including the heart.  It tends to make the heart beat fast and stronger (pounding).
