Im on metoprolol25mg but iv noticed i feel vibrations in my chest after i take it sometimes real bad sometimes just some should i be on this drug? This gets weird now ok i was just sitting there in the little room waiting to be released as my bp wasent to high and by time i got there my heartrate was ok to and then the nurse came in and asked me if i had someone with me to drive me home i asked her why as i drove myself there she told me my blood work showed i was legally drunk and my blood acohol level was 2.0 i believe she said so i nearly fainted on the spot and my heart started to race as i told her i dont drink thats got to be wrong and she showed me the report and right there it was on the report ok now folks i havent drinked so much as even a beer in about a yr and have never been big on drinking in my whole life and now im scared and just want to know if the metoprolol could have something in it that might cause the report to show me as drunk? Also i told her i havent even had any cough syurp with acohol in it, nothing in my system other then the metoprolol. Im so scared now for the atrial fillibration and this please someone if you know anything about either tell me and thanks.

I would be very surprised to see a confirmation that Metoprolo  can cause atrial fibrillation symptoms, it is often uses as a treatment.  If you doctor agrees that the AFib is Metoprolo triggered, please let us know.

The biggest complaint I read about Metoprolo is that it makes people light-headed and tired.

You're quite welcome and feel free to drop in again with more questions or just to talk about how you're feeling lately. Hope your visit with the cardio goes well.

I agree with ireneo that there must be a mistake in your blood work--perhaps a mix up with another patient.
The good news is atrial fibrillation is usually easily treated and it is not life threatening if it is treated.  You definitely need to see your doctor as soon as possible and tell him/her about your feelings when on your medication.
I found when I was first diagnosed with a fib the family practice doctor did not have the skills and experience to manage my problem.  His choice of medications were ineffective.  I then saw a cardiologist and he switched me to a different medication.
I eventually had an ablation, and that was a permanent fix, and I no longer need meds to control my heart rhythm.
The important thing to know is there are many things that can be done for atrial fibrillation.  Doing nothing can be life threatening, but as long as you are under a doctors care, you are likely going to be OK and it will get resolved.

They should have done a second blood test to make sure they got it right. I just read that occasionally they can get the samples mixed up. I'm not sure how since they label everything but stuff happens. I can't think of any health problem that would create alcohol in your blood stream.

Atrial fibrillation is a rhythm problem in the upper chambers (atria) of the heart. The heart fires off chaotic signals in the atria so they quiver instead of contract slowly. Some of the signals pass through to the ventricles so they continue to contract but usually in an irregular manner. The pulse rate seems to fluctuate quite a bit. Some people have it with no symptoms at all, some feel the flutters and feel off. If you click on "health topics" at the top of the page, you can find more information.
