borderline mitral valve prolapse with mild tricuspid regurgitation

by kbennj, Jan 26, 2009 06:24PM
I just heard from my doctor who got the results of my echo.  They said I have mild tricuspid regugitation and borderline valve prolapse.  I am sooooo scared now.  Does anyone else have this.  The treadmill part of my stress test came back fine but we are still waiting for the nuclear part of it.  I am freaking out.  Is this life threatening?

To my knowledge many people have mitral valve prolapse without suffering any symptoms, or requiring any treatment.  Tricuspid reurgitation may be more problematic in that it may contribute to enlargement of the right atrium... BUT, it may not.

You didn't mention anything else, such as blood pressure.  Your diagnosis says to me it is very important that not have high blood pressure.

Be calm, you are being examined and your doctor(s) will advise/recommend treatment as necessary.  No "freaking out" please, you'll be fine, just follow your doctors directions.

I expect at your age your nuclear stress test will also come out in good shape.

Good luck,

I found out in my 40's that I had mitral valve prolapse and have never had any symptoms or required any treatment.  I'm 62 now and am having some extra beats, but just had a physical and my doctor says it's nothing to worry about.  It could be caused by the MVP........or not.

I agree with Jerry in that you should listen to your doctor and don't panic.  I bet you're going to be just fine.....

Thank you all for your replies, I feel better in knowing some people have it and don't even know it.  I wish I didn't know it now...haha It's the regurgitation thing that bothers me.  Do you think it will effect an exercise routine?  My blood pressure is always good, 120 over 76 or like 117 over 70, when I went in to the ER , my blood pressure was cooky like 128 over 46 but maybe I was having some anxiety. That bottom number was low.  I am in relatively good health , or so I thought, I feel deflated, like I have been thrown a curve ball.  I guess we aren't immortal after all.  I am 35 and tis the age we need to start looking for these things.  Do you think I should call a cardiologist now or let my regular Dr handle this? Thanks again everyone, this is a wonderful group.

I though from the tests you have had you were already under the care of a cardiologist,  was I mistaken?

I think it unusual, at least in my limited experience, for a primary care (family) practice doctor to go to echo/treadmill/... without involving a cardiologist..but then maybe s/he has, and the results are coming back/to/through your PC doctor.  Not sure I answered you question, too much speculation on what/when/who... yes I think you should be under the direct care of a cardiologist.
