bradycardia

I am on 100 mg of Metoprolol (and 5 mg of Amlodipine) for high blood pressure.  My pulse gets down to 44-48 but I do not feel faint.  Should my Amlodipine be increased and my Metoprolol reduced since beta blockers reduce pulse rate?

You should discuss with your doctor, but from what you tell me it sounds like you do not have any problem with the low HR.  I assume the 44 is only when fully at rest and the HR will come up when you engage in some physical activity.

A dose of 100 mg is a "high" dose in my book.  How is the BP?  I have taken as much as 200 mg of Metoprolol to slow down a fast HR... but it gave me too many side effects.  I now take 50 mg of Metoprolol and have added a Calcium Channel Blocker to help lower my HR.  So, my treatment reason is different than yours, but I share for whatever value you may find in my "story".

I agree with Jerry - you should discuss this with your doctor.

Bradycardia is not dangerous if it's not extremely low (30s) or associated with dizziness, SOB or other signs of poor circulation, or if it doesn't increase properly with exercise. (except if you have LQTS or severe electrolyte disorders).

Both Amlodipine (Calcium channel blocker) and Metoprolol (Beta blocker) decrease heart rate, if the bradycardia is bothering you, you can ask your doctor for other drugs that decrease blood pressure without reducing heart rate (i.e drugs that dilate the blood vessels and decrease resistance your heart have to work against, that doesn't affect your heart).
