constant chestpain, dull pressure and light headness

r9c
Hi everyone i am 24 years old and i have been experienced this palpations, dull chest pain, sometimes sharp pain on the left side, shortness of breathe and light headness usually when standing for a long time,i seen a cardiologist twice, did a 2 stress test which came out fine,an echo which also came out good and several ecgs nothing significant but at times a beats of 100 bpm,so last month after experincing this awful chestpressure feeling i went back to the A&E and they refer me back to the cardiology department where they schedule me for a 24 hour holter on march. My main problem is the constant uncomfortable chest pressure, pain and was told by most doctors that my heart is fine .so if the heart is okay how is it possible to have those light headness, chestpain, shortness of breathe..one doctor says it could be due to anxiety, and yes i do have panic attacks and anxiety as i am so concern about my health,so wat could be wrong? thanks in advanced

Hi,nope he dint mentioned about hiatius hernia but did mentioned GERD acid refulx that it could cause chestpain, but so far i dont think i have GERD.The only thing mentioned about by the cardiologist is that probably to test for my thyroid again, even 3 months ago it was normal. The main problem is just those constant light headness and shortness of breathe,i think it might be anxiety the culprit.

were you evaluated by a cardiologist for the hiatius hernia? Sometimes I think I have one because I have frequent indigestion (but at the same time I don't get much exercise). I also have chest pains randomly but no other serious symptoms of a hiatius hernia

Hello,
your symptons are identicle to what I have been experiencing.  My pain was central along the sternum, but also the lower left side.  I went for all the tests and thought the doctors were all crazy when they told me my heart was fine.  I went to a doctor who gave me 3 weeks supply of nexium, which is a major acid blocker.  I did NOT have heart burn recently, but I agreed to give it a try.  I had great improvement.  Stomach issues like Hiatius Hernias often push up into the chest, causing pain.  Such pressure in the chest cavity may cause palpitations and arrhythmia.  In my case, I have been off the nexium for 3 days, and now am experiencing the previous issues (arrhythmia, chest pain).  The chest pain leads to further anxiety, light-headedness.  I found a great web site called "Panic Center".  I took a few pointers and have noticed a big difference.  Getting checked out was the right thing to do.  Remember, the healthy heart diagnosis is the key.  Feel good about that, and check into other possibilities such as stomach issues.  PS Stress / anxiety are brutal on the body.  A good read is A New Earth, by E. Tolle.
Hope it all works out for you,
Cheers.

Yeah, this is kinda confusing, and I think the main thing here is that you don't know what's going on, and that unknown is really the main problem. My thinking here, and of course take this as coming from someone who is not a medical pro, is that you've said that you do have panic attacks and anxiety, and that you've had a stress echo and ekg come back normal so far. Also, as I've mentioned, that type of constant dull chest pain you describe isn't typical for cardiac issues. 100bpm is a bit high, but not dangerous. What the root cause of the chest pain is, I have no idea, but it doesn't sound like it's your heart. Maybe your Holter monitor will turn up something, but if I had to make a bet, I'd probably say no. As for the anxiety and it causing symptoms, I wouldn't underestimate what anxiety can do. It can cause all kinds of trouble and certainly exasperate whatever pain you are experiencing, and lightheadedness could certainly be cause by anxiety as well. The mind has a powerful influence on the body.

So that's kind of what I was getting at with my suggestion. There may indeed be something physiological going on, but since it seems unlikely based on what you know that it's your heart, and you are able to relax a bit and start to feel a bit more comfortable and confident that it isn't a heart issue, then if anxiety is indeed a source of the symptoms, that should help. There's also plenty of techniques you can google on things for managing stress and anxiety such as breathing exercises. You can try some of those things and see if it helps. If you can sense that you're able to relax, and are still having the same symptoms, then, assuming the Holter comes back normal, it may be time to pursue another avenue of investigate.

Thanks for the replies guys, really appreciated it.I know most of my test have been clear but its just those physical symptoms of chestpain, lightheadness are there most of the day, doctor says it could be anxiety related but somehow i dont even feel anxious or nervous and thats the reason why i kept going to the doctor office because of those symptoms.
Yes i should be happy when all my test are clear but then..what might be causing those symptoms..i do think anxiety might but how could anxiety create such real physical symptoms.

Yeah, I'm with cindy on this one. You should be thrilled that your tests are coming back negative. I know how when you've got these symptoms in your chest, and the doctors aren't finding anything, it can make you think that they must be missing something. But that's usually not the case. Try getting comfortable with the idea that it's not your heart that is causing the symptoms. That's not to say that there's nothing going on, but I will say that the constant dull pain you describe is not typically a heart-related symptom. But having it, and then thinking something might be wrong with your heart could be enough to give anyone a scare and cause all kinds of panic and anxiety related things.

Good morning.............it sounds to me if all of your tests are negative repeatedly that you need to find a way to accept all of this and move on with your life.  Yes anxiety and stress can cause alot of your symtoms and regardless of what the doc has said palpatations are extremely common in people and don't hurt anyone....people just have to adjust and accept is all.You are 24 years old...got a clean bill of health from the docs...don't look for trouble where there is none because it isn't fun having heart problems.  You need to try to divert yourself and find something to occupy your time.....if it were me i would be jumping up and down i would be so happy that nothing was wrong.  If you are still having trouble accepting that nothing is wrong it may be time to make an appt. w. a mental health specialist to get to the root of your fear...we all worry about dying...its normal....good luck to you......
