excessive heartrate and fever/sweats after certain foods

Can anyone help?
When i eat certain foods a few hours later, usually when i am in bed trying to sleep, my heartrate increases severely (sometimes to approx 200bpm), i get a mild fever and sweats and sometimes it triggers vivid dreams or hallucinations.
It first happened following a sweet and sour chicken dish for a local chinese takeaway, thinking it was something to do with the bright colours in the food i avoided it. It seems to be happening more and more with different foods, ie chilli flavour tortillas and spicy bq wings.
I have also had this after red wine, if i drink any more than 3 large glasses, obviously i thought this was being drunk at first but knowing the difference i believe this could be down to the sulphites in the wine, but this doesnt answer the food problem.

Has anyone else had similar reactions to foods??

thanks
Gareth

Hi Gareth i read your post...a couple of things to think about...number one is that if it were me no matter what i would be checked out by a doctor especially if you don't have a hx. of heart issues just to be sure all is well...however....you posted some things that are fairly common with the food groups you've described that are notorious for setting off a series of rapid heart rates.  The MSG is chinese food is one of the culprits for setting off a fast heart rate....the FDA has posted warnings about MSG and the dangers of it when ingesting it into the body and palps are definately high on the list.  Number two is red wine is a big no no for most people what have certain heart issues because it is a common demoninator in causing the same thing.  I know that when i eat specific foods after a certain hour i have the worst nightmares of my life...bananas are the biggest no no for me after six at nite..if i eat one i can pretty much garantee myself that i will wake up crying in the middle of the nite.  Everyones body is different tho.  If you google out both of those food groups the wine and the MSG you will see what i mean.  As far as the spicier foods i have never really looked into it to know but i am sure someone else will weigh in on this one.  Process of elimination is always good with trying to get to the bottom of anything but regardless you should still see your doc just to make sure that nothing else is hiding itself behind these reactions to this food ingestion.  Good luck with this.....
