exercise increased my resting HR

exercise increased my resting HR

I have restarted exercising about 6 months ago. Since then my resting heart rate has increased by about 10 bpm from approx 68 to 78. is this OK.. I expected the HR to reduce over time. Also I notice that the HR increases faster rather than slower.

Nothing troubling about the HR numbers you post, but it does seem strange that exercise would cause you resting HR to go up rather than down. I do know that people who exercise regularly will see a lower resting HR, but I think this is an effect over a very long period, not just a few months of exercise.  The lower HR would be due to a significant increase in cardiovascular capacity, I suppose.

On the other hand, I also know that exercise increases the body metabolism, i.e., when at rest the metabolism is more active, burning more calories.  Could this mean a slight increase in HR?  I don't know.

In the absence of any other strange heart symptoms I'd just "ride it out", and see what happens over the next 6 months.
