extra beat during exercise

extra beat during exercise

Hello.

I am aware that many people post regarding extra or skipped beats, and that they are usually normal, but I've read some confusing information. About me: 28 years old, fit, 155lbs. I occassionally get an extra or skipped beat during intense exercise. If they occur, it usually only happens one at a time (i.e., not a series of extra or skipped beats). I've had a normal echo and a normal holter reading. the doc thought wearing a holter during exercise would be better than just doing a stress test. I worked out really hard while wearing the holter, but I am not sure if one these extra beats even happened. They don't always happen, and they are hard to "catch". Assuming I don't have any underlying pathology or structural problems (since the echo was fine) are those occasional extra/skipped beats during intense exercise cause for concern?

thanks for your help

With a structurally normal heart, the data shows that extra beats during exercise are not dangerous.  Premature ventricular contractions during the recovery phase of exercise is associated with increased cardiovascular risk (this is the time immediately after you stop exercising).

I hope this clarifies your question.  Thanks for posting.
