fast heartbeat only when waking up

The last month I will wake up a few times a night with what feels like a fast heartbeat. I check my pulse and it seems normal. I only seem to feel this when I am waking up. It goes away within seconds after I wake up. I have had palpitations in the past. I dont have any other symptoms.

How do you know you have a fast HB?  Is it hard, you feel it?  Maybe it is a strong rather than fast, have you measured against you watch?

Do you think you have been dreaming?  If is possible you were having an exciting/frightening dream and that caused you HR to rise, then to fall when you wake up.  It is possible you'd not remember a dream, but think about it next time if you can.  Most dreams are quickly forgotten upon waking...I do remember some of mine, at least enough parts to know I was dreaming.
