fluttering

I went to the doctor the other day and the doctor said my blood pressure was high 130/90 and it feels like my heart is fluttering now what does that mean?

First of all, let me tell you that 130/90 is FAR from high.  It probably was white coat syndrome where a lot of people's BP goes up as soon as they put the cuff on in a medical facility.  If you are truly worried about your BP, buy a cheap monitor for home and take it when you are in a normal state.  It is great if it is under 120/80 although I know they changed the standards to under that, but I sure do not know why.  Most people I run into are above.  As for the fluttering, you may be nervous about what he said and you may have had a few PACs or something.  The electrical system is a different animal.  If you feel lightheaded, and these are new....AND they don't go away.  If you feel they are making you feel bad, see a cardiologist about them.  As soon as he tells you everything is okay, try not to give it much more thought.  When you do anyway, come back here.

Thanks Rita, I felt that the doctor wasn't really too concerned about my blood pressure, I thought it wasn't really high either, she kept talking about blood pressure meds though which I thought was a bit extreme. I also wanted to let you know I have taken my BP at work and it's about 120/80, so your probably right, I get anxious at the doctor.
