Are you referring to an Ejection Fraction of 14%?  If yes, 14 is a very low number.  I don't think any of us on this community are in any position to guess life expectancy.  What has the doctor told you?

Hi norrisgrl....i think you may have meant EF or Ejection Fraction this basically tells the docs how his heart is pumping  the blood in and out of his heart and at what strength.  There is actually alot of things that can be done to improve his injection fraction through basic lifestyle changes, medications, etc.  A normal ejection fraction usually runs at about 50% or above .....as far as his life expectancy goes no one i doubt could ever answer that one....i think what you probably need to do is to sit down with your husbands doctor and ask him some really specific questions...like is the doctor going to make suggestions on how to raise the EF and are they going to put him on medications to try to help him...give the doctor all of the hard questions to answer for you....we have seen posts here on this site where people have really raised their EF through suggestions their doctors made...i would give him/her a call tomorrow.....good luck to you both

My father was placed on a transplant list when he was down to 14% ejection fraction.  He had end-stage congestive heart failure due to a massive heart attack on his left anterior artery which is a really bad place to get one.  A heart became available 5 months later and he was still waiting at home for the heart.  He managed to survive the 5 months at home through meds.

Like Jerry said there's no way to tell.  It all depends on the disease progression.  Like Cindy said sometimes there are ways to improve the EF and manage through medication.  Speak with his doctors and if you are not getting good answers get more opinions.

you may want to ask in the heart disease community also; http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Heart-Disease/show/72

I know there are some there who have low ef's and recover depending on what the cause is and what else is going on
